Beverly Yu is the State Government Affairs Director for UDW/AFSCME Local 3930, a union representing 140,000 In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) providers and child care providers throughout California. As the legislative lead for the union, Yu is responsible for ensuring that the voices of these critical workers are included at all levels of policymaking. Under Yu’s guidance, the legislative team drives budget and policy priorities protecting the state and county programs that impact UDW members’ employment, as well as working on economic and social justice initiatives that impact their lives and communities. While at UDW, Yu helped pass historic legislation that allowed the state’s family child care providers to unionize, protected the IHSS program from a 7 percent cut, and she currently serves on California’s Cannabis Advisory Committee. Prior to her position at UDW, Yu gained extensive legislative experience interning for former Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez, Assemblymember Paul Fong, and Assemblymember Rich Gordon, as well as the Assembly Office of the Chief Clerk. Yu is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations.
